Sunny Side Up (Wet n Wild)

Hello all!

It's been some time since I posted (an entire week, lol!). Anyway, it's just a matter of not having new nail polish for a while... obviously I can't stay away too long. I've been busy with graduation prep and things and feeling stressed out so now that I'm home and have easy access to a drug store other than my usual understocked college CVS, I went and broke my week and some change long sobriety from new nail polish.

I'm also coming back with all new short nails! I had a nail break and decided to just level out the others and start a fresh regrowth instead. The nail edges look a little rough because I'd just gotten done absently filing them so, apologies and all that.

This is Sunny Side Up (Wet n Wild) and it's a bright and sunny orange creme. It finishes off glossy, which I didn't think it would for some reason. Sunny Side Up is stunning in the sunlight and just screams summertime fun. Unfortunately, it suffers from Wet n Wild's stiff brushes that don't really work well with cremes; this isn't helped by the formula requiring three to four coats for opacity and leveling out. In fact I took these pictures at three coats and I wasn't really satisfied with how the polish settled.

I remembered I had another bright yellow orange polish in Naughty Girl (Pure Ice). While I didn't really like how sheer Naughty Girl was alone, I kinda like what it did to Sunny Side Up.

Downtown Ice (NOTD)

This mani was a bit of a journey.

First, I very slightly frankened up my two main bases, Chinatown (NYC) which is a dark violet black polish with subtle shimmer, and Cheatin (Pure Ice) which is a blue and purple glitter. I added Soft White (Milani) to Chinatown to make it just a note lighter and creamier. However because Soft White is a very runny very sheer formula, it sort of contributed the runniness to Chinatown that made it hard to control. It all worked out color wise, however, and the result was this soft dark violet that reminded me of an early night sky (without the stars, yet).

Next, I grabbed my Cheatin, which is a pretty but otherwise plain blue and purple glitter polish, and added Oscar (Julep). I chose this combination because I wanted to sass up Cheatin which I liked and use up Oscar which I didn't like. The result was a light dusting of gold in Cheatin that I'm going to be progressively adding Oscar to as I continue to use up the polish. Just for extra kicks, I added a minute amount of Starry Silver Glitter (NYC) but that didn't show up in all the nails except some, where you can see the larger hexagonal blue and pink macro-glitter. I only used one coat of this because I wasn't going to be wearing this mani for long and I didn't want to struggle with getting it off (I don't want to have to resort to the foil method for a one day mani). I finished it all off with a topcoat, off course.

I called this combination Downtown Ice because it reminded me of what the downtowns of cities look like as the night begins and all the lights come up and it's multi-colored artificial lights everywhere and the sky never looks quite dark enough.

We Run The Night (NOTD)

I'm calling this mani, We Run The Night, because it makes me wanna go out and do some dancing.

After the base coat, I used NYC's Chinatown which is a great violet almost-black which surprised me because I'm so used to seeing blue or green almost-blacks. It applied easily and sweetly and had a really nice subtle purple shimmer all throughout that brought some life to what could have been a boring color.

To pump it up I mixed two glitters that could be a bit blase on their own, Big City Dazzle (NYC) and Cheatin (Pure Ice). Individually the glitters are all right and it takes about two/three coats to get some real play out of them but together they lit up my dark polish and made me want to get under a strobe light.

I'm going to have to try it at as a matte to see what shines through, Cheatin or Big City Dazzle because under a clear glossy top coat, they shine about the same.
